General Meeting March 1, 2023

The meeting was called to order at 11:45 am by President Sandy Mackey at the Kanaloa Outdoor Pool Enclosure.

In attendance:

Sandy Mackey, Myrna Fant, Judy Burger, Jayne Williams, Laura Miller, Randi Wilson, Pam Miller, Diane Ilstrup, Jeanene Dickenson, Joan Chapman, Jo Quinn, Sally Wamba, Sharon Long, Julie Adolf, Sara Ito, Beverly Jefferson, Debbie Mitchell, and Amy Rosato.

Sandy started with old business.

Old Business:

Myrna Fant, as Secretary, read the minutes from the previous year’s General Meeting.

The General Meeting minutes from March 2, 2022, were read by Myrna for approval.
Laura Miller moved, and Diane Ilstrup seconded to approve the minutes. The motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report:

Judy Burger, as Treasurer, gave a review of the organization’s financial health. The checking account balance as of Feb 22, 2023, is around $1,300, with $300 still budgeted for the Hometown Championship.

Sandy asked for approval and Pam Miller moved and Julie Adolf seconded to approve the Treasurer’s Report. The motion passed unanimously.

New Business:

Sandy thanked the membership for adhering to the Vaccination Policy. She asked what the memberships thoughts were on this. Sharon Long wanted to know what the CDC recommended. Julie Adolf felt it should be an individual’s choice since we are mostly outside, and Randi Wilson agreed. Joan commented about what Canada does. Laura Miller felt since we are all outside, it should be eased. Judy Burger indicated that it’s not over. Jeanene Dickenson says we should continue the shots. Sandy Mackey said many places have relaxed their restrictions, should we make any changes?

Julie Adolf moved, and Randi Wilson seconded that we eliminate the vaccination policy. After discussion, Julie Adolf gave to the amendment when Sharon Long moved, and Jayne Williams seconded to suspend the vaccination policy, we will review it next year at the Lea Lea General Meeting in March 2024. The vote was 14 for and 2 against and 2 nonvotes, the Motion has passed.

Tournaments 2023:

Sandy Mackey asked the Chairs to talk about each tournament.

Sandy Mackey indicated the Eclectic was won by Jayne Williams; Jayne discussed Pick a Partner and that it was a fun tournament. Myrna briefly talked about the Lea Lea Cup and Sandy explained that many people assisted in this Tournament and that the PINK team won. Sara Ito discussed the Club Championship but said Randi Wilson did all the work with all GROSS winners we will keep doing it. Larger payouts again were discussed. Suggestions are welcomed. Sandy Mackey was the Ace of Aces Tournament Winner for 2022 only 9 people are in the group as well as follow the field. Everyone gets $15 for getting ACE. Sandy Mackey asked for any volunteers to run next year’s tournaments.

Sara Ito announced we have a ball marker for the winner of our major tournaments, Jayne Williams for Eclectic; Club Championship went to Janet Ford; Sandy will award the ACE of Aces tomorrow.

Most Improved Award: Sara Ito talked about the HSWGA keeps track of everyone’s handicaps. Sara also awarded this year’s recipient to Myrna Fant.

A random special award for being number “8” was awarded to Pam Miller who won a round of golf compliments of Kona Country Club.

Diane Ilstrup moved, and Judy Burger seconded to accept the new Board of Directors as mentioned above. The motion passed unanimously.

Sandy personally thanked the new BOD and thanked Pam for all she does behind the scenes to make this facility available to Lea Lea. The new Board and Officers assembled for a group photo.

Joan Chapman newest member was welcomed.

Judy Burger will be taking checks for ACE of ACES $10. Sara asked that someone manage the Ace logging, and Jayne Williams volunteered to organize the monthly Ace Competition.

Julie Adolf asked about how new memberships will be handled. The first contact will be with Jo Quinn and Sara Ito will help organize the setup with USGA. The handicap must be established for membership was under discussion. Judy Burger suggested referring to Instructors or lessons if no handicap was established. Sharon Long explained her experience with the group. Sara Ito explained the USGA charge of $25 (paid by Lea Lea) and Handicap-only members were discussed. This issue will be up for review with the new President.

A special presentation was given to Sandy Mackey where the BOD gave her a card and flowers.

Questions/Comments: There being none, Diane Ilstrup moved, and Judy Burger seconded the adjournment motion passed unanimously.
