Local Rule:
Maximum Score Per Hole. USGA suggested procedure, Lea Lea test 11/11/20-1/31/21
• The purpose of this procedure is to speed up regular club play. It will not be in effect for tournament play.
• A player should pick up on any hole where they have exceeded a score of ‘net double bogey’.
This is par + 2 + your handicap strokes on the hole. Handicap strokes are determined by the Handicap ranking numbers at the bottom of the scorecard (see below for additional explanation).
• Players picking up under the Maximum Strokes Per Hole procedure are eligible for all daily prizes and Ace of the Month.
When determining where you get strokes:
❏ Familiarize yourself with the handicap rating on each hole (be sure to look at the
appropriate tees, mens and womens are often rated differently) See example below.
❏ Know your course handicap each day’s play.
❏ Please take some time to familiarize yourself with your course handicap at KCC and put your strokes/pops on the scorecard.
❏ A little preparation before your round will avoid confusion. Your playing partners are always here to help, but it is also important to understand as the day’s game will vary each week!
❏ For example: if your handicap is 18, it means you one stroke/pop on each hole. If your handicap is 20, you get a stroke on each hole, plus one additional on the holes ranked 1 and 2, etc. Please see detailed examples below.
❏ This system is designed to create and maintain a fair playing environment amongst players of all different levels!
Let’s put this into a direct example: Attached is a mocked up scorecard with Kacey’s handicap, Janet’s handicap and Sandy’s handicap.
❏ For Kacey, her course handicap from the red tees is a 5. She receives a stroke on the holes rated 1-5. Please note the dots on her card corresponding with those holes, indicating a stroke is given on each.
❏ Janet’s course handicap is 14. Similarly, she receives a stroke on the holes rated 1-14. Holes rated 15-18 she does not get a stroke.
❏ Sandy’s course handicap is 34. Strokes are first given for one on each hole, then start over on the #1 ranked hole again until 34 strokes are given. You will notice Sandy gets two strokes/pops on each hole except for those rated 17 and 18.
Net double bogey examples: (par + 2 + strokes you receive on that hole)
❏ Kacey’s maximum score on hole #1 is a 6 (par 4 + 2 + 0 handicap strokes)
❏ Janet’s maximum score on hold #1 is a 7 (par 4 + 2 + 1 handicap stroke)
❏ Sandy’s maximum score on hole #1 is an 8 (par 4 + 2 + 2 handicap strokes)
❏ Kacey’s maximum score on hole #3 is 5 (par 3 + 2 + 0 handicap strokes)
❏ Janet’s maximum score on hole #3 is 5 (par 3 + 2 + 0 handicap strokes)
❏ Sandy’s maximum score on hole #3 is 7 (par 3 + 2 + 2 handicap strokes)
To reiterate the local rule, players are to pick up their ball when net double bogey score is reached on each hole. There are a few reasons for this, one is that it does directly coincide with the score you can post, the other is to speed up play! As you see, this can vary per hole and per player.
It takes some time and practice in determining your strokes and the new rules, so please feel free to reach out to Kacey or Sara if you would like to discuss this further! We are happy to help.
